We understand our clients are unique, because we are too. The team at Hodgsons spans all manner of professional and personal spheres, with experts in inheritance tax, statutory audits and capital gains, through to a chairman of an enterprise agency, as well as trustees and treasurers of charities and local organisations.

Whilst we may agree that we’re all different, we do also believe that everyone benefits from employee investment.

All our employees are kept up-to-date with the latest industry developments and qualifications, and in acknowledgement to this commitment to training, in 2006 the firm was awarded Platinum Approved Trainer status by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

James Hodgson
James HodgsonManaging Partner, Falmouth
James is a chartered accountant and joined Hodgsons in 2004 having previously worked for a national firm of accountants in Bristol. He has managed the Falmouth office since joining the company and has been a partner since 2006. James has nearly 20 years commercial experience of working with owner managed businesses and charities. He has extensive knowledge of corporate finance, business strategy and tax planning.
Peter Stevenson
Peter StevensonPartner, Launceston
Peter joined Hodgsons in 1980. He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1984 and was admitted into the partnership in 1988. Responsible for the Assurance Department, with an emphasis on owner managed businesses, Peter’s specialisms include solicitors and the construction industry.
Sarah Gay
Sarah GayPartner, Launceston
Sarah joined Hodgsons in 1986, straight after A’ Levels. She qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant In 1995 and became a Partner in 2009. With her 20 years’ experience with Hodgsons, a background in farming and extensive sector knowledge, Sarah heads the Agricultural Team along with Hodgsons’ outsourcing department.
Louise Jones
Louise JonesSenior Manager, Launceston
Louise joined Hodgsons in 1986 and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1995. In 2001 she was appointed as a Manager and more recently as senior manager. With over 25 years of experience, Louise has developed a solid knowledge base that enables her to deal with a diverse range of client scenarios, from sole traders through to limited companies. She is also responsible for the training and development within the firm.
Melanie Cage
Melanie CageSenior Manager, Launceston & Falmouth
Melanie joined Hodgsons in 2008 on her return to the Southwest. She qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2012 and was appointed Manager in 2013. Having originally qualified in law Melanie turned her attention to Tax, specialising in complex tax matters, planning and high net worth individuals.
David Astle
David AstleManager, Launceston
David joined Hodgsons in 2009 after working in both Birmingham and Oxford. He holds both the AAT and ATT qualifications, and in 2013 he was promoted to a Manager. David’s wide ranging accounting expertise is a result of an extensive client profile and 20 years of professional practice. He is a part of the Agricultural team, and offers support and advice to clients. With the varying nature of farming, David enjoys this challenging aspect of his role.
Julia George
Julia GeorgeAccounts Senior, Falmouth
Julia qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1992 and joined Hodgsons in 2006. Julia has experience with a wide range of organisations, including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. She offers advice in all areas of accounting and assistance with Sage and Quickbooks software.
Peter Hodgson
Peter HodgsonConsultant, Launceston
With over forty years expertise, Peter has a wide knowledge of landed estates, trusts and inheritance tax planning. Peter was chairman of University College Falmouth from 1999 to 2007 and was also chairman of Mount House School in Tavistock. He was High Sheriff of Cornwall in 2005/06 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Cornwall in 2006.
